“I believe that I will see the goodness of Yahweh in the land of the living! Wait for Yahweh; be strong, and let your heart take courage. Yes, wait for God!”
Psalm 27: 13-14
Happy New Year! Yes, let us be happy that we have started a new year in hope. We have no idea what awaits us in this year, yet isn’t that wonderful? We get to dream that things will be better as we rush away from year 2020. As I peruse social media, I find no one who wishes that 2020 would last longer, but all are ready and eager to start a new year.
Of course, more soberly, I also realize that every year has its own troubles as well as joys. I am simply hopeful that this year the joys will outweigh the troubles. It could happen, especially if more Christians wake up and take their faith in Christ seriously and begin to live more Christ-like lives, lives of compassion and kindness.
Let us all enjoy the feeling of relief we feel at the opportunity to start fresh into a new year, even if we are not able to shake off as much of the old stuff of last year as we wish. Even if many of our troubles are following us into this new year. But for today, I choose to look at the possibility for goodness in this new year, and to go boldly into the future, knowing that God goes with me, for God’s presence gives my heart courage.
My beloved ones, may this year bring you both courage and hope,
Bishop Kedda
